Cadiz
|
|
|
The best shopping in
Cadiz is probably in the old town. Go to Calle Columela & Calle Ancha,
which are the two main shopping streets. If you want to go shopping in
the new town, then all of the shops are along the main 'Avenida' which
runs directly through the centre.
But remember, the siesta still exists here & everything is shut between
2:30pm & 5:30pm before opening again till 9pm.
You also have the
option of going to Bahia Sur in San Fernando. This is an indoor shopping
centre in the next town. It takes about 10mins to get there & trains
are fairly frequent. It has an excellent variety of shops.

Jerez
|
|
|
Jerez is an important
trading city in which the most traditional products and ancient crafts
can be found (barrel-making, wicker work, wine, brandy & sherry,
flamenco, saddlery, etc.), with international shops, and boutiques where
you can find exclusive products.
Within the Old Centre, much of which is pedestrianised, is the
'Jerez Centro Comercial Abierto'
(the open-air shopping centre), where a good many shops and businesses
are in one area.
Also, in the centre as well as outlying areas, the city boasts numerous
indoor shopping centres and hypermarkets.

Sevilla |
|
|
|
|
|
Seville offers a wide
selection of shops for buying arts and crafts, clothing, leather goods,
gifts, etc and its shopping districts are always full of people and
activity. We recommend visiting the following areas:
-
The Historic center,
around La Campana and the pedestrian streets of Tetuán and Sierpes,
which include traditional shops selling ceramics, guitars, flamenco
costumes, fans, embroidery, as well as modern shops of fashion, music,
etc.
-
Nervión, near the
station of Santa Justa, has several department stores.
-
Los Remedios, on
the other side of the river which skirts Triana, is the home of
several boutiques.
|
 |
|
The nearby town of
Castilleja is famous for a wide range of desserts such as crumbles,
tortes, sponge cake and home-made sweets like Sweet Bread Fritters,
Pestiños and Gañotes. |
|
|
|
-
The ceramics market
based in Triana.
-
The biggest
open-air markets are those of the Plaza del Duque and the Plaza de La
Magdalena, which sell leather work and costume jewelry.
-
The main Antiques
Fair is held every year in the old Plaza de Armas train station.
-
The most
traditional event is held in Feria street on Thursdays and also good
for antiques.
|
|
Antique Shops -
The Alfalfa neighborhood, especially around
the Cabeza del Rey Don Pedro Street and adjacent streets, contains a
large number of antique shops and galleries which exhibit and sell
contemporary art. The rest of the city's antique shops are located in
the shopping district. In these streets you will find a large number of
stores for the purchase of art and antiques. |

Gibraltar |
|
|
|
|
|
Traditionally,
British ex-pats living in Spain have flocked to Gibraltar to bank and to
shop for those tastes of home such as Cheddar cheese and tea bags. The
latter are now freely available in Spain but the ex-pats still flock to
the Rock for a different shopping experience.
Many of the big
British High Street names are here such as Marks & Spencer, Safeway's,
Checkout Tesco, BHS, Mothercare and Dorothy Perkins.
The majority of the
shops are on or around Main Street. This has been transformed in recent
years into a beautiful pedestrianised shopping area. The newly
refurbished Casemates Square at the end of Main Street will soon bustle
with shops, restaurants and bars. |
 |
|
|
|
Amongst the shops of
Main Street you'll find numerous money exchange centres. The vast
majority offer a very good rate of exchange and charge no commission on
cash exchanges. However, do be careful to check before you change your
money. At least one exchange near the Piazza does charge commission - so
be warned. |
|
Along with the famous
British and international shop names there are many local shops. Look
out for Chinese linens, designer sunglasses, the latest CDs, electrical
equipment, audio-visual gadgets, cigarettes, cigars, spirits, jewellery,
watches, porcelain, perfumes and designer wear. |
|
Take home with you a
piece of Gibraltar Crystal. You'll find them in Casemates Square. You
can see glass being made and visit the display centre. You'll also find
a wide display of glass on offer to cater for every taste and pocket.
|
|
Shops in Gibraltar
tend to follow British rather than Spanish opening hours. The majority
of shops open from 09.00 to 18.00 Monday to Friday although some remain
open a bit later. On Saturday most shops close at 13.30 and they stay
shut on Sundays, unless a cruise ship is in port. |
